- Born (August 21, 1946) and raised in Lubbock, Texas. Graduated Lubbock High School in 1964.
- Graduated University of Texas at Austin in 1968, with BBA in Finance.
- Graduated Texas Tech University in 1969 with MBA.
- Worked as management trainee at Citibank in New York (1969-1971), then a commercial banking career in Dallas, with InterFirst (1971-76) and Mbank (1979-81).
- Married Jackie Welborn in 1977. Jackie was a principal in S.A. Rose, a women’s apparel manufacturer and retailer in San Antonio until the business closed in 2004.
- We are members of Trinity Baptist Church.
- Pursued various venture capital, real estate and family business interests in Dallas and Lubbock through the 1980’s and early 1990’s.
- Chairman of the Board and Director of a publicly traded company, Coit International, Inc. (ASE) 1976-78.
- Our family business in Lubbock was bottled water and high-purity water treatment services for medical and commercial users. The high purity water business brought me to San Antonio in 1989, as a stockholder and general manager of Continental Water Systems Corp. We sold Continental to U.S. Filter, Inc. in 1994.
- Joined Coleman Company Insurance Services, Inc. in 1995, serving first in administration and management, later in sales production.
- Vice President/Producer for one of the oldest and largest independent property and casualty agencies in San Antonio, now a subsidiary of Brown & Brown, Inc.
CIVIC and PROFESSIONAL
- President Rotary Club of San Antonio 2003-2004.
- Chair of Rotary Club Youth-Education Foundation, a $1.2 million endowment (2005- ).
- Texas Water Quality Association board of directors 1987-88.
- Leadership Lubbock graduate and Steering Committee Chair, 1987.
- Lubbock Independent School District Budget Advisory Board 1988.
- Texas Tech University Red Raider Club Board of Directors-1998.
FAMILY
- Daughter, Mikel, 38, Mikel is a Special Education teacher in the Northeast School District (Tejeda Middle School) in San Antonio. Two children, Jake and Maya.
- Son, Chris, age 37, married October, 2005 to Randi Christiansen. Previously with Accenture (management consultant) in New York, is now a principal in an early stage pharmaceutical venture called RxGen, Inc., in New Haven, CT. Three children, Sophie, and twins, Sera and Sienna.
- Son, Andrew, age 30, married March, 2006 to Shea Squires from Waco, TX, is Asia Pacific Sales Manager for TransPerfect Translations, a New York-based translations and cultural consulting company. He is currently posted in Hong Kong. One daughter, Tatum.
- Son, Decker, age 28, is a Latin American Studies, Spanish and Business Foundations graduate from The University of Texas at Austin. He is Marketing Manager for web based residential multiple listing service in the Middle East and Europe. He is based in Dubai.
