Dr. Duncan Wimpress – 8/1/09
Past President of Trinity University
A native Californian, Duncan Wimpress holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Oregon and a Ph.D. from the University of Denver. He also has two honorary doctorates. He has served as president of Monticello College and Monmouth College in Illinois and Trinity University in San Antonio as well as the internationally-known Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research. Over the years, he has been a Board member of some forty non-profit and profit-making agencies and has served as chairman of a number of them including the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, Mission Road Developmental Center, the Higher Education Council of San Antonio and others.
In Rotary, he has served as president of the Rotary Club of San Antonio, and as District Governor of Rotary International District 5840. He also has served as R. I. President’s Representative on several occasions and as President’s Information Counselor. He was the point person in bringing the 2001 Rotary International Convention to San Antonio and served as Vice-Chairman of the Convention Host Organizing Committee. Over 24,000 Rotarians came to San Antonio for the Convention. Duncan and his wife, Peggy, are both Paul Harris Fellows, benefactors, and Major Donors to the Rotary International Foundation.
A veteran of World War II with a Bronze Star for Valor and five major battle stars, he participated in the invasion of Normandy on D- Day and in the Battle of the Bulge. Dr. Wimpress is a licensed commercial pilot with instrument and multi-engine ratings. He is listed in Who ’s Who in America (since 1964) as well as in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, American Men of Achievement, Dictionary of International Biography, and other directories.
