BIO

As President/CEO of the non-profit San Antonio Bowl Association, Derrick Fox is responsible for the overall administration and day-to-day operations of the Valero Alamo Bowl and its Community Festival of Events.

Fox has guided the bowl since inception in 1992. In the game’s 18-year history, Fox has been responsible for:

  • Contributing over $66 million to institutions of higher education¬ through team payouts and another $754,000 in local scholarships over the past 11 years.
  • Developing the bowl and its Community Festival of Events into an annual event with an average direct annual economic impact of $32 million to the San Antonio economy.
  • Drawing over 685,000 out-of-town visitors to San Antonio to attend the bowl game since inception generating direct visitor spending of $340 million.
  • Raising the bowl’s team payout from 18th out of 18 bowls the first year to 11th among the 34 bowls in 2010.
  • Successfully securing and hosting such neutral site games such as the 2006 Texas A&M vs. Army game, the 2007 Big 12 Championship game in San Antonio and the 2009 Notre Dame vs. Washington State game.
  • Producing three (3) of the Top 8 most-watched non-BCS college bowl games in ESPN history, including the #1 and #2 most-watched non-BCS games in ESPN bowl history:
    • 2010– Texas Tech vs. Michigan State – 5.6 rating, #1 most-watched game in ESPN history.
    • 2006 – Texas vs. Iowa – 6.0 rating, #2 most-watched game in ESPN history.
  • Earning the second-highest average television rating (4.3) and third highest attendance (61,243) of all 28 ESPN non-BCS bowl games during the past 10 years.
  • Since its inception, the Valero Alamo Bowl has hosted eighteen (18) bowl games that have attracted over one milion spectators and been viewed by more than 104 million national television viewers on ESPN.

Personal

A graduate of Duke University, Fox came to San Antonio in August 1992 after seven years with the Fiesta Bowl. He began his Fiesta Bowl career as an intern in 1986 and held the title of Director of Marketing his last three years.

A native of Port Angeles, Washington, Fox is married to Alison Fox. They have two sons – Drew (16) and Jake (14).
